The University of Pittsburgh is committed to enriching the learning and working environment for all visitors, trainees, faculty, and staff by promoting a culture that embraces inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability. Diverse perspectives, talents, and identities are vital to accomplishing our mission.

Post-Doctoral Applicants

This two-year, NIMH-funded training program matches creative and energetic post-doctoral (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD) individuals in mental health-related disciplines with faculty members who provide mentorship across an array of approaches and methods, including fMRI, genetics, statistical modelling, treatment evaluation, and implementation science. In addition, we provide resources for travel, coursework, and pilot research, as well as health, dental, and vision insurance for fellows and their dependents.

There is no formal application deadline for the post-doctoral program; however, it is advised that you apply well in advance of your proposed start date. Most people apply approximately one year in advance. The program has a limited number of positions available each year, so it is better to apply sooner rather than later. We encourage interested individuals to reach out to our Director, Dr. Tina Goldstein at goldtr@upmc.edu prior to submitting a formal application.

Required Post-Doctoral Application Materials

Pre-Doctoral Applicants

The IMPACT fellowship program is a paid, eight-week, pre-doctoral research elective offered each year for up to four medical students. Most students complete the fellowship during the summer between their first and second years of medical school, although other times may be available.

Each student is paired with a mentor from our training faculty whose work complements the student’s research interests. To learn more about program research mentors please visit People | IMPACT child and adolescent psychiatry research program (live-childpsychiatryresearch-pitt.pantheonsite.io). Fellows in the program will work on a project that may lead to a scientific presentation and/or a peer-reviewed publishable product. In addition to performing research, fellows also shadow mental health professionals in the clinic.

There is no formal application deadline for the pre-doctoral program; however, we stop accepting students after the maximum of four fellows has been reached for the year. Most students submit applications between January and February for the upcoming summer. Application to this program is limited to medical students. We welcome applications from students at the University of Pittsburgh as well as from other schools throughout the United States.
